Abstract Controlled disintegration of pharmaceutical tablets has been interest for consistency checks and drug delivery. Under sonication, tablet is accelerated. This acceleration attributed to the existence microscopic air pockets inside compacted tablets. In this study, we investigated such by subjecting micro-computed tomography. addition, subjected from same batch sonography. The were measured have an ultrasonic swelling rate 162±16 μms−1. tomography images showed up 9 μm in diameter, some which visibly connected each other. brightness-mode scattering tablets, suggesting cavitation activity. We conclude that, investigated, entrapments exist, whose pulsations are detectable with ultrasound.
